International Travel Insurance for Jamaicans

If you’re reading this, you are probably getting ready to take a trip abroad or simply looking for that insurance needed to apply for your Schengen visa. Well, voila, you are in the right place!

As a frequent globetrotter, I remember going on my first set of travels a few years back, in which I had such a difficult time finding travel Insurance for Jamaicans.

Since then, luckily, I have found two Insurance policies that work in both instances.  One for regular trips and one that would meet the requirements to successfully apply for a Schengen visa.

Travel Insurance with World Nomads

I cannot stress how much it is important to be covered, especially when you are travelling. The last thing you’d want is to do is rack up medical expenses while travelling abroad. A simple stomach bug can be extremely expensive depending on the country you’re visiting.

Over the years, I’ve been using World Nomads as my go-to travel insurance company. My trips can be very adventurous, from Bungee Jumping to Cave hiking, to several speedboat trips. With being this active, I always make sure I am covered.

World Nomad offers a standard plan and an explorer plan. The price per policy will be based on your residence of course, where you are travelling to and for how long. A month’s plan for travelling to the US and Canada would be an estimate of $205.00. Whilst, travelling to locations such as Brazil and South Africa would be an estimate of $152.00.

Travel Insurance for Schengen Visa Requirements

I apply for Schengen visas a few times per year.  If you’re looking to apply for a Schengen visa soon, you’re required to have travel insurance that fulfils certain requirements.

Germany for example, you’ll need to have travel health insurance that provides a minimum coverage of €30,000 for medical treatment.

I use Insubuy, and they provide the Schengen Visa letter for the purpose to present to your consulate regardless of where you are applying for the visa.

Once again, the estimate for a policy will depend on where you are travelling, how many countries in total and for how long.

Travel Insurance criteria for the Schengen visa:

For a travel insurance to meet the criteria for the Schengen visa. It MUST include:

It must have a minimum coverage of at least 30,000 EUR (equivalent to 34,000 USD).

It should cover all member states of the Schengen Area.

It should also cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons. That includes urgent health attention and/or emergency hospital treatment or death.
