Mansion San Miguel & San Miguel de Allende

Since my visit to San Miguel de Allende, every traveller I meet along the way, I encourage them to visit this “Magical Town”.

A few weeks ago, I added San Miguel de Allende to my list of places to visit and I am so happy I did.

With a burst of excitement, (a usual when I get to explore somewhere new) I did a quick research before making my visit. Soon,  I would have learnt that this “Pueblo Magico” is known to be the “Most Beautiful” town in Mexico.

With antique, colonial towns scattered throughout the country— to be rated as the “Most Beautiful” is exceptional.

Over the course of 3 days here, I checked into Mansion San Miguel to explore the corners of the city that makes it so special and ‘magical’.

Overview of  San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende is a small a colonial city in Mexico’s central highlands with approximately 150,000 inhabitants.

It is famously known for its baroque Spanish architecture, thriving arts scenes and cultural festivals. With a city that is predominately cobblestoned, and comprised of colourful one story row-like buildings—it has somewhat become a favourite Mexican city to explore both by locals and foreigners.

Mansion San Miguel shares a similar personality. Just a few blocks from the city centre, Mansion San Miguel sits on a hill overlooking the outskirts of San Miguel de Allende. With its 1800’s style-setting, and big courtyard experiencing San Miguel de Allende from this hillside spot was ideal.

It was also a haven for sunset watchers.

Insights of San Miguel de Allende

For the last couple of months, I have been visiting many different locations around Mexico; both on the coast and inland. For me personally, San Miguel is one of the most magical and fairy-tale looking places I have been.

From the beautifully structured buildings to the old-looking cobblestoned roads, San Miguel gives off the energy like you were going back in time. I loved it. I loved the surroundings and the fact that I was waking up and seeing something different; something that I was different from what I am used to. I appreciated its uniqueness and personality.

Reading about the “Pueblo Magico” I was stunned to have realised that it was the rated as “The Most Beautiful” in Mexico. For many, the word “Beautiful” comes in many forms and shapes; but visiting the town in person you will then realise that it is indeed somewhere special.

Visits to now what I call my “Fairy-Tale town“ has increased over the years. Because of its charming personality, pretty little buildings and its 1800 century-setting, San Miguel de Allende average to about 6-8 weddings on the weekends.

Living the 1800’s Life 

I checked into Mansion San Miguel for 3 days to explore the city and to feel a little of the 1800’s. My first morning started off with a dreamy breakfast setting. For the next couple of days, I enjoyed the bliss of going back in time; almost. From the breakfast setting to the entire surrounding and to finishing my days overlook the sunset over the courtyard.

For many, a weekend to the “Pueblo Magico” is usually on their list. Along with a hot spot for local holidays and many small festivities.

Getting here: 

San Miguel de Allende is located in the state of Guanajuato.

It can be easily accessed my flights to the local airport in the city of León.

Getting here from Mexico City is a 1hr flight or a 4-5hr bus journey.

Getting here from Guadalajara would be easier by bus as there isn’t a direct flight. The bus journey is between 3 to 3.5hrs.

For such a magical place, I am already looking forward to visiting in the future.
