4 Classic Experiences You Need To Have On Your Travels

Posted In: Lifestyle

When it comes to traveling, most people have a bucket list of places they want to visit and things they want to experience, whether physical or just hypothetical in their head.

The world is so huge, and there is so much to explore that it’s hard to narrow it down to just a few of the best, but here are four classic experiences that I think everyone needs to have on their travels.

Seeing Wild Animals Up Close

Going on a safari to see the likes of lions, elephants and giraffes in their natural habitats is something completely magical, and something that has to be experienced to appreciate. You may have seen a giraffe in a zoo, but that’s nothing compared to seeing him grazing from the trees on the Serengeti, or seeing the great wildebeest migration.

A safari holiday can be as rustic and natural as you like, camping out in one-man tents beneath the stars, or more luxurious, staying in lodges with private pools and 5* catering. See animals on foot, on the back of a 4X4 or even in a hot air balloon.

See the Northern Lights

There is nothing in the world like the Aurora Borealis — the stunning colours lighting up the sky, a nocturnal rainbow. You have the best chance of seeing this amazing display if you head to the Arctic region when the nights are longer and darker. You may have to rely on crossing your fingers as it is never guaranteed — it makes sense for something so beautiful and rare to be a little elusive, after all!

My first time experiencing the Aurora Borealis was during my flight flying to Iceland. It could be seen from the windows of my plane, 30,000+ ft above sea level. It was like nothing I have ever experienced. One word – magical!

Explore the Great Barrier Reef

There is a whole hidden world of magic at the edge of Australia’s East Coast — 2600 km of it in fact! Not only is it the biggest reef in the world, but it also has options for less confident divers to practice in safer waters, yet still see some incredible fish.

More experienced divers will be able to explore the Outer Reef, too. The experience of being underwater is pretty amazing in itself, without even considering all the stunning, colourful fish and the coral reef.

Stay Up All Night In NYC

There are so many different things to do and see when you visit New York — it is the city that never sleeps! So it only seems fitting that you don’t sleep either, at least for one night! You can spend your time soaking up the atmosphere in Times Square, which is almost as bright at night as it is in the day, or looking down in the city from the top of the Rockefeller Centre. Take a leisurely stroll around Central Park or take the ferry to Staten Island in order to get a good look at Lady Liberty.

These are just four experiences I think everyone should have at least once in their life. I could easily fill a whole book with different things, but I am pretty happy with the four I narrowed it down to.

What do you think? Do you agree with these, or are there any I’ve missed? Let me know in the comments!
